Grabbed a few shots of Bede Durbidge at D'bah this morning. It's dead set one of the smallest days I have ever seen there but he was still ripping. Not the greatest prep for the Tahiti comp though... http://www.swellnet.com.au/galleries/771-teahupoo-on-the-tweed

We hit the circus yesterday with the East of Grey crew to shoot some product. The Ballerina on Horseback range is circus inspired so the colouful trucks/tents etc make for good backgrounds. Lennon Bros. were really accommodating and looked after us. We couldn't really play too much with animals for obvious reasons...I dread the thought of telling a mum that her daughter died in a tragic lion induced modeling accident. Anyway, nothings been retouched yet but here's a few.

Winter Solstice (is that even how you spell it?) was on June 21st. Shortest day of the year or middle of winter or split second in time where the earth is at it's greatest angle away from the sun...don't really know. Should have listened in science. Old Mr Tom would be rolling in his grave.Anyway like most other days of the year I went to the beach and took some photos...more fun than science.Joel ParkinsonMick FanningStephanie GilmoreRabbitMick picked up some flotsam...and ...

Apparently June 20 was International Surfing Day. I don't know much about it but it looks like something that the crew at Surfing Magazine made up over smoko one day. You could read about it at wikipedia if you feel inclined.Anyway I went to the beach...picked up a piece of rubbish...took some photos...but in reality all International Surfing Day did for me was give me a title for this post. We got some nice little waves though.

Ronnie James Dio died the other day.
50 odd year career. He's remembered for singing with Rainbow, Black Sabbath/Heaven and Hell, solo gear and being a genuine heavy metal legend.
Here's a link to a Heaven and Hell show I photographed at Brisbane Entertainment Centre in 2007.
He did other stuff too. This is the first song I ever remember hearing/seeing when I was a kid. It was on ABC when they had gaps to fill between programs. Classic. I didn't even realise who sang it until I w...

Every so often we get to play with toys that we can't afford...Ibis somehow conned the good folk at Billabong to give him a ski for a few days because the forecast looked good, then not so good, then good and finally flat. I've been ragging on skis and their inappropriate use in the surf for 20 odd years so the moment we got access to one we immediately showed restraint and responsibilty...and went and did whips in a one foot shorey. It was piss funny and we ended up with a couple...

7 of us had our own little dawn service this morning on Arrawarra
Headland on the NSW Mid North Coast.
Good time to have a trumpet player on hand.
Jamin reading the ode
The Last Post on the horn
A minutes silence to reflect
Before Andrew ripped into Reveille and rounded out our tribute.
Lest we forget.

Been back from Vicco for a few days now and have been pretty slack.
Finally getting around to chucking some pics up here. I didn't end up shooting that much of the actual contest as Swellnet were more interested in the free surfing and goings on around the traps which was a blessing because I didn't have to stand at the comp all day and a curse because there were no waves for the majority of the time.
All in all it was a good time but felt like an eternity...
Thank goodness for Swell...

A couple of legends Occy and Tom Curren hit the water today for a bit of a novelty heat to try and relive the glory days...more the glory days of the spectators than the guys themselves though. Tommy was ripping but the conditions weren't really letting Occ do his thing. I would love to see those two go at it in some decent waves. The remaining 6 heats of the mens were finished up and they threw in an expression session and some junior stuff to keep the Easter crowds happy.&...

Conditions were so dire yesterday that I resorted to photographing people lining up for coffee. On a positive note I have decided that my theme for the contest is 'Onshore'...positives are few and far between. There's more/different/not very exciting pics on Swellnet

Not much doing down Torquay way...which kind of blows when you need to come up with something to photograph each day. I always seem to be waiting for one 'element' to join the party...Some days I'll have good waves, pro surfers around and clouds/rain. Then it'll be great conditions and no-one to surf them. The combo at the moment is great weather, pros on tap and absolutely no waves. The comp might start one day...maybe tomorrow...who knows...I'll just keep showing up at the...

When I read the paper I often wonder what other imagery was available to
them at the time of print so I could then determine why they chose
certain pics.
I had a laugh after the press conference at Bells about whether we
wanted to make Mick and Joel frosty toward each other or besties...you
could just make up whatever you like...they call that journalism.Tense...Or Besties...

If by some stroke of poor fortune you follow me on twitter you would know that I have taken a short drive down to Bells Beach for the Rip Curl Pro. As it's my first time here for the comp I still find it amusing to quote lines from Point Break at appropriate times (...ie. all the time). Unfortunately there is not a single person here who will even give me a courtesy laugh. An extensive knowledge of the history of competitive surfing is not really required to work out that waves are...

East of Grey founder/designer/creator/recycler Kim Bailey dropped around to the studio tonight to shoot some of her range. Some pretty cool gear in there for the ladies. Check 'em out of Facebook and Twitter.I'll whack some pics up later but here's some quality modeling in the meantime.

We'll start with a couple of quotes...
Jeez.. even back in the day I wouldn't have been game to draw a system
like this on the back of my schoolbooks. What a beast! - Ben Matson, Swellnet.
The old boys keep talking about active years and big systems....well, this is a big system. - Stu Nettle, Swellnet.
And finally...
Looks like Ului veered west and dropped intensity earlier than expected. Great news for the folk living in the vicinity, few grumbles from surfers to the south... ...

Spent last week hanging out on a rock in the rain at the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro events at Snapper Rocks. Long days. Not much sun. Glimpses of quality waves...you get the idea.
Taj won the blokes and Steph cleaned up the girls again.

Blogging seemed to be all the rage among the hip, cutting edge crew a couple of years ago. Now that it's mainstream I guess it's time for me to jump on board and flog it to death. I'm clearly very excited about it all. I've had this blog/site thingy for a couple of months (with many thanks to Conrad jedi web dude) and haven't even added any pics to it. That may change if it keeps raining this weekend.
I think all of the cool names have been taken so I'll just stick with the one on my b...
